Welcome to Troop 77

Right up front, we want to say we're glad you and your family decided to join us. What's that? You say you thought that just YOU were the one joining? Sure -- but scouting has ways for everybody to be a part. So what else is there about scouting you didn't know?

Scouting is an exploration. Yes, there are also adventures like camping and hiking (especially when the weather isn't cooperating), but scouting also offers each individual the chance to explore ideas and activities, abilities and interests.

The purpose of this Passport is to let you know the basics, to answer the most frequently asked questions about being a Scout in Troop 77. It's not possible to answer all the concerns you're going to have -- but we will try to touch on some of the most important ones.

Here's a good time to talk about other places to find answers. Each patrol has a patrol leader -- a scout like you who patrol members have elected to be your representative to the rest of the troop. He attends planning meetings and gets the word direct from the Senior Patrol Leader, so he's supposed to know what's going on. New Scout patrols also have a Troop Guide. That's an experienced scout who works with you to help develop your scouting skills. Finally, each patrol has an Assistant Scoutmaster assigned to watch over how the patrol operates as a whole.

As you continue along the Scouting trail, other questions are bound to come to mind. Many answers can be found in the Boy Scout Handbook, others you'll pick up with experience. So relax, learn, and HAVE FUN! That's what Scouting is really all about.
